What is Lagree?

Lagree is a high-intensity, low-impact muscular endurance workout performed on a specialised machine. Using spring-based tension and bodybuilding principles, this method fatigues the muscles to deliver maximum results. Lagree workouts feature slow, consistent movements, typically to a tempo of four counts. This keeps the heart rate elevated and eliminates the use of momentum. The method was created by Sebastian Lagree and popularised in Hollywood for its effective results and short class times.

What is the difference between reformer pilates and Lagree?

Lagree and Pilates are both low-impact fitness methods focused on strengthening the body, but they differ in several key aspects:

Intensity and Pacing

Lagree is generally considered more intense than pilates. It transitions quickly between movements with minimal rest. It also involves more muscle activation and higher resistance. This keeps the heart rate elevated, promoting cardiovascular growth and resulting in higher calorie burn. In contrast, pilates is not designed for cardio workouts and typically keeps the heart rate below 90 BPM.

Lagree ensures users reach the anaerobic threshold, with heart rates over 145/150 BPM when performed correctly, making it a high-intensity muscular endurance workout.

What if I’ve never done Lagree before?

We know trying a new workout or studio can be a bit daunting, so we appreciate you giving us a try! For your first class, please arrive 5-10 minutes early. This allows your instructor to give you a quick overview of the machine and a preview of the movements you'll be doing. We recommend booking into a foundations class designed with beginners in mind, though it’s not mandatory. We're here to support you every step of the way!

Who can do Lagree?

Lagree is suitable for all fitness levels, with each class offering modifications and options to help you progress in your practice. While there might be a brief adjustment period, our instructors are here to make you comfortable and keep you motivated. We encourage you to be patient, stay focused, and get ready to love Lagree! If you have chronic back pain, painful joints, or a serious medical condition, we recommend starting with a private session to evaluate your fitness level. These are available in the afternoons or when the studio is closed.

How do I buy and book into classes?

You can purchase,book into classes and pick your Miniformer on our booking page or on our app, which can be downloaded from the app store for iOS and Android. We recommend booking early as classes will fill up.

How do I find Tallie?

We are located in Edinburgh New Town next to The Playhouse. Our address is:

10 minutes before class start time, ring the Tallie Studio intercom for entry. Then, walk along the long corridor and head up the first flight of stairs. Our studio doors will be on your left on the first floor. Please refrain from hanging out in the stairwell as this is a communal space for other business in the building.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before class starts. If you're new, we ask that you come 5-10 minutes early for an induction. To maintain the flow of the class and out of respect for our clients and instructors, late arrivals will not be admitted, with no exceptions. If you do arrive late, your spot may be given to a walk-in client.

What facilities do you have at Tallie?

Our Lagree studio was designed with you in mind. You'll find lockers to store your personal belongings during the class and a changing room to get ready. Should you need the toilet or a shower, you will find two toilets and one shower room right across the hall from the main studio doors.

What should I bring to class?

To get the most out of your Lagree workout, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s a quick list of essentials to bring:

Grip socks

Grip socks are required for every class for safety reasons. You can purchase them at reception. They provide better traction and stability, ensuring a safer and more effective workout.

Water bottle

Staying hydrated is key. Bring a water bottle and sip as needed throughout the class. Bottled water is also available for purchase at reception.

Towel

You’re likely to break a sweat during your Lagree session, so a small towel is handy for keeping yourself comfortable.

Form-fitting workout attire

Wear breathable, form-fitting clothing that allows for a full range of movement. Avoid loose clothing that could get caught in the machines.

Minimal or no jewellery

For safety and to prevent damage, it’s best to keep accessories to a minimum or leave them at home.

And of course, a positive attitude!

Lagree classes can be challenging, but the afterglow is so worth it. We encourage you to bring along a positive mindset, say hello to your trainer, and get ready to push yourself to achieve your goals.

What is the cancellation window?

Tallie operates a strict 12-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel your class within this window, you will lose your credit, possibly be charged, and no refunds will be provided. As a small business, late cancellations can take up spaces that could have been offered to others with more notice. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

What class should I book?

Please refer to our classes page to find the option that suits you best. For beginners, we recommend booking into a foundations class, specifically designed with newbies in mind (though this is not mandatory). For your first class, please arrive 5-10 minutes early for a proper induction to the machine and workout.

Can I attend if I’m pregnant or have recently given birth?

First of all, congratulations! If you were regularly attending Lagree classes before your pregnancy, you can continue as long as you feel comfortable and have your doctor’s approval. Please consult your physician before joining a class, and let your instructor know in advance so they can provide modifications tailored to your needs.

For post-pregnancy activity, it's essential to get clearance from your doctor. Typically, they recommend waiting at least 8 weeks after vaginal birth and 10-12 weeks after a C-section. Remember to listen to your body and take your time easing back into your workout routine.

How often should I attend classes?

We recommend attending classes three times a week for optimal results. This frequency allows your body to build strength and endurance while giving you enough time to recover. However, listen to your body and adjust based on your personal fitness level and goals. Consistency is key, so find a schedule that works best for you!

Do I need to book classes before visiting the studio?

Yes, all classes must be booked and pre-paid prior to your visit. You can purchase, book into classes and pick your Miniformer on our booking page or on our app, which can be downloaded from the app store for iOS and Android. We recommend booking early as classes will fill up.

How does the waitlist work?

If a class is full, you can add yourself to the waitlist. Should a spot become available, you will be automatically enrolled in the class. If you need to cancel your spot on the waitlist, please do so in the same manner as you would for a regular class.

If you are moved into the class from the waitlist within the 12-hour cancellation window and decide you no longer want the spot, please note that you will lose your pass, possibly be charged, and no refunds will be provided.
